01
Confirm exactly which lift is proposed
Match the quote to the stock number, rated capacity, model and condition you reviewed. Check whether bunks, legs, motor, controls, canopy frame, cover and hardware are included or sold separately. Ask about any inspection or refurbishment work described and what remains to be done. If a substitute item is proposed, repeat the fit and condition checks rather than assuming it is equivalent. Confirm what happens if an accessory pictured on a listing is not part of the actual sale.
02
Put the full cost on one page
Separate equipment from transport, loading, unloading, assembly, installation, leveling, adjustment, electrical work, old equipment removal and any applicable taxes or fees. Ask who is responsible for permits or site preparation and what happens if unexpected shoreline conditions require extra work. There should be no mystery charges in your decision. Compare this installed figure, not only the equipment price, with other suitable used or new options.
03
Check options and sale terms
If a trade-in might be useful, ask whether one is considered for your particular equipment, how it would be assessed and whether its value affects the quote. Clarify payment stages, reservation or deposit terms if any, cancellation terms and any warranty or guarantee explicitly offered. Request a written statement of coverage, exclusions and who handles service rather than relying on a verbal impression.
04
Decide with a realistic schedule
Ask which steps must happen before an installation date can be discussed: inspection, stock confirmation, site review, transport arrangements, approvals or weather and water conditions. A quote date is not necessarily an installation date. If timing is important, explain why and ask what can be confirmed now, what remains tentative and how changes will be communicated. Keep a copy of the final scope and note unanswered questions. A good decision leaves you knowing both what you are buying and what still depends on site verification.
Common questions, answered
What’s included in the price?
Ask for an itemized written quote identifying the exact lift, accessories and any inspection, transport, installation or removal work included. Do not equate a listing price with a delivered, installed price.
Are there any hidden fees for used lifts?
Do not assume there are or are not additional charges. Request taxes, travel, access, parts, electrical, removal and site-work costs as separate line items, plus written approval before changes to the scope.
How soon can it be installed?
Timing depends on inventory, location, site readiness, approvals and scheduling. Ask for a date or range specific to your project and which conditions could change it; no standard turnaround should be assumed.
