What To Expect

PHASE 6 OF 7 · Purchase, Installation & Handover

Get ready for installation day

Once the equipment and written scope are agreed, attention shifts to the site and the handover. A smooth day depends on knowing where the lift will go, what work is included and who to contact if conditions differ from the plan.

01

Prepare the route and the waterfront

Confirm the agreed delivery point, vehicle access, gates, slopes, overhead obstacles and a clear path to the water. Review water depth, bottom conditions and the intended relationship to the dock. Remove loose items from the work area and flag utilities or other hazards for the installer. Check whether any local permissions or electrical work are your responsibility. If an old lift is being removed, agree in advance where it goes afterward; removal and disposal should appear in the written scope if they are part of the project.

02

Know what happens on the day

The sequence may include unloading, moving equipment to shore, assembly or adjustment, placement, leveling and a functional check. The exact steps depend on the lift, site and agreed services; do not assume every crew performs electrical connections or dock modifications. Ask who makes decisions if the site differs from photos or additional parts are needed. Keep the quote available and request an explanation before changes that affect cost or setup. Weather, water levels and safe access can also affect when work proceeds.

03

Plan your role in the handover

Ask whether you need to be present to give access, confirm placement, approve a change or receive an operating demonstration. If you cannot attend, arrange an agreed contact person and decide how questions will be handled. Before the crew leaves, inspect the position of the lift relative to the boat and dock, review any visible issues and document what remains open. A walkthrough is useful even if the installation looks complete: knowing the controls and limits is part of using it safely.

04

Learn the routine before first use

Have someone show you the specific operating steps for this lift, including raising and lowering, securing the boat, load limits and any power controls or manual backup that apply. Ask how to position the hull on the bunks, what to check before operation and when to stop and seek help. Request available manuals or model information, plus maintenance and seasonal storage guidance appropriate to your configuration. Record the agreed service contact and any written coverage terms. Do not rely on instructions for a similar-looking model.

Common questions, answered

What happens on installation day?

The agreed crew delivers and sets up the equipment according to the written scope, checks placement and operation, and flags site issues. Confirm the planned sequence and any removal, electrical or additional work beforehand.

Do I need to be present?

Ask in advance. Your presence may be useful for access, placement decisions and orientation; if you cannot be there, agree on an authorized contact and how handover will occur.

How do I operate and maintain the lift?

Request a demonstration for the actual model, its controls and load limits, then ask for available instructions and a maintenance checklist. Check cables, moving parts and alignment as instructed; stop using it if something appears damaged or unsafe.
